“War Dogs” kind of sneaks up on the viewer, which is a weird thing to say about a movie that stars Jonah Hill and Miles Teller as the slimiest characters of their entire careers and was directed by Todd Phillips, the guy who made the “Hangover” trilogy. Not only is “War Dogs” a surprisingly well-told tale in the classic American rags-to-riches-to-rags mode. It’s also a mordant morality fable with a genuine heart of darkness. A story as well-known as Chesley Sullenberger’s is difficult to approach: How do you make a movie about a man who did his job well and subsequently became a national hero? When the script for “Untitled Story About Captain Sullenberger and the Hudson River” came across Clint Eastwood’s desk, the director claims that he initially balked at the idea. Thugger first came to prominence under another internet rap sensation, the cult hero Gucci Mane. The two collaborated while he was still a part of Gucci’s 1017 Brick Squad imprint, and although they’re no longer labelmates, they continue to be friends today. After Brick Squad, Thug moved to Cash Money offshoot Rich Gang,…

To accompany the release of Bruce Springsteen’s autobiography “Born To Run” is the companion album “Chapter & Verse.” The record consists of a dozen of his well-known songs, as well as five previously unreleased tracks from his early years, before the E Street Band. It’s a very specific collection, closely tied into the book, but aside from the early tracks, there’s not much here that makes it essential. The early tracks are definitely interesting, and unless you’re a diehard collector, it’s unlikely you’ve done more than hear these in passing. Having the tracks cleaned up and available for posterity is a…
